ODF Campaign
Project: Implementing GSF Communication and Knowledge Management Strategy:
To achieve the National Goal (NG) of the Universal Coverage by 2017, and Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of 53% by 2015, as Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) recipient, NEST partnered and collaborated with UN HABITAT and implemented GSF Comprehensive and Knowledge Management Strategy in Bajura and Bardiya districts and Tikapur and Gulariya Municipalities including 3-Sanitation Model Districts: Kaski, Tanahu and Chitawan. undertook the following projects. The program was from 12 Sept 2012 - 13 Dec 2012 and the total budget was USD 33,184 (UN HABITAT USD 29,749 and NEST USD 3,435).
Project: Open Defection Free (ODF) Campaign and Sanitation and Hygiene Behavioral Promotion in Arghakhanchi District.
Under the Open Defection Free (ODF) Campaign and Sanitation and Hygiene and Behavioral Promotion in Arghakhanchi district, NEST implemented this project in 32 VDCs in Arghakhanchi district. The overall objective of the project was to help achieve people's access to improved sanitation facilities and promote hygiene behavior for reducing prevalence of diarrhoeal disease and promoting health condition through capacity building, mass sensitization, community mobilization and institutional development. To achieve these objectives, NEST planed and implemented sensitization workshops, undertook mass mobilization, community mobilized and monitored activities established matching fund and raised the level of awareness. The project period was 4 July 2012 to 31 Dec 2014. Total budget USD 363,739 (UN HABUTAT USD 298,941 and NEST USD 64798).
Project: Follow up Open Defection Free (ODF) Campaign in Rautahat District.
With the funding support and closed coordination with the UN HABITAT NEST undertook a follow up project in 25 VDCs out of 30 working VDCs in Rautahat district. Aa an Implementing partner, NEST carried out sector coordination and capacity development and took ODF initiatives. In addition, NEST implemented the GSF program in a boarder aiming to strengthen sectoral alliance, promoted sustainable behavior, localized the Master Plan and achieved status considering reaching this unreached and focused on knowledge management. In addition to this, the program strengthened the monitoring and evaluation system within and established the system in D-WASH-CC. The project period was 16 July 2015 to 15 July 2017. Total fund was USD 115,940 (UN HABITAT USD 110,905 and NEST USD 5035).
Government of Nepal (GoN) is committed and has set target for universal access to basic sanitation facilities in Nepal by year 2017. D-WASH-CC Rautahhatto address the national target has set its target to declare Rautahat as ODF district by end of year 2073 BS (12 April 2017).
Under the guidance and coordination of D-WASH-CC, a number of stakeholders and programme partners are supporting the "ODF Campaign" in Rautahat. GSF/UN-Habitat under fourth funding round has support to D-WASH-CC Rautahat from April 2014 to December 2015 for implementation of Open Defecation Free (ODF) Campaign through theNEST as lead partner (sub-grantee) and ECDC Gaur as a local partner.The programme has completed 2 years of campaign including 6 months no-cost extension period in 30 VDCs of Rautahat district.
The same programme now has been started again from July 2016 as a Sixth funding round (fourth follow up round) and will remain up-to June 2017. The targeted VDCs for this round are 24 including 2 VDCs under commitment of sub-grantees. NEST for this funding round has added Community Power (CP) as local partner from Gaur. The first year implementation period has ended in December 2016. The programme has completed six months of campaigning in year 2016. Till date total 14 VDCs are declared ODF. The total budget of the sixth funding rounding as agreed with GSF/UN Habitat is USD 110,905
