Gita Badi, 30, along with 14 members living in Lamkichuha-3, Badi tole in Kailali. Most of the community people do not know and believe to make pickles at the local level. It is proved by the women’s group in Lamkichuha-3 Balchour, Kailali. Previously, they prepared pickles for home consumption and celebration of special occasions in religion and caste. But some women groups are uniting and starting to make different types of pickles from the locally available material and vegetables. Now, they know the at least 20 varieties of pickle-making procedures, but now they have made 5 varieties. It is only possible to participate in 3-day training organized by NEST with the support of USAID’s Tayar Nepal project. They have prepared more than 20 varieties of pickles during training and have learned the skills of pickle making and entrepreneurship. Now, they are preparing and selling pickles in the local market and have earned Rs. 6,500.
Following the training, the group members were given complete sets of supplies for pickle making, which included gas stoves, gas cylinders, digital balance, containers with packing materials for sealing, and the necessary utensils (buckets, batas, and dekchi), in addition to sets of spicy materials necessary for pickle making. Now, they have received legal authority and registered a farm named “Aagaman Mahila Aachar Udhyog.” The group members are planning to start commercial production and sales in the supermarkets and retailers also. The municipality is also committed to supporting the purchase of necessary materials and equipment for this farm.
