Lalita Chaudhary, 29 as a young woman and freed kamaiya, has lived in Lamkichuha-3, Balchour, since 2014. She owns 2 katthas of land; she also built a small house on the site. From the beginning, she has started seasonal vegetable production and planted bottle guard, okra, pumpkin, cowpeas, brinjal, colosacia, cauliflower, cabbage, beans etc in field. She has planted vegetables on her land, and also sells the vegetables locally in addition to using them for home consumption. She was ready to grow vegetables even in the off-season when she received training from NEST in May 2024 with the support of USAID’s Tayar Nepal. Now, she has a bamboo-framed plastic tunnel with a complete structure with an insect net and a plastic house.

She also demonstrated the application of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) products and drip irrigation with plastic mulching in this house. She also demonstrating the vermin composting technology. We have observed satisfactory plant growth since she planted tomato and brinjal saplings under a plastic home. She is now happy as well and expects to earn an extra Rs. 15,000 from the sales of hot peppers and tomatoes from plastic house in one season. Both of plastic house and vermin composting are an innovative application of technology in that region, and other farmers are benefiting from it as well by learning from this center and easily replicating its methods. Now, Mr. Baduwa Chaudhary, 60, observed this technology and copied this model in his farm.
