Economic Resilience-USAID.
The Nucleus for Empowerment through Skill Transfer (NEST) implemented the “Enhance Economic Resilience of Targeted Vulnerable Indigenous Groups” project to strengthen economic resilience and address climate change in Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet and Lamkichuha Municipality of Kailali districts over five months periods in 2024.
Although the project aimed to support 300 households, it successfully reached more than 372 households, focusing of vulnerable indigenous smallholders, landless people, ethnic minorities, ex-Kamaiya (former bonded laborers), marginalized Dalits, and the Sonaha community.
The primary objective of the project were to strengthen the economic resilience of two municipalities in order to support vulnerable indigenous group’s income and ways of living and to establish connections with the local government and market for sustainable entrepreneurship
The specific objectives are;
a. Promote sustainable livelihoods through on-farm and off-farm enterprises in collaboration with public and private sectors.
b. Connect local producers with key market players to ensure long-term sustainability.
The project was successfully completed and handed over to the municipalities, ensuring ongoing support and development.
