Livelihood Assets and Education Support for Slum Communities

Project Duration: March 2026 – December 2026
Project Location: Ward 3 (Nadipur) and Ward 9 (Buspark Area), Pokhara Metropolitan City
Donor: German Embassy, Kathmandu

Nucleus for Empowerment through Skill Transfer (NEST) is implementing a targeted initiative to enhance the economic resilience and educational continuity of vulnerable households living in informal urban settlements.

The project directly benefits 150–200 low-income households (approximately 300 caregivers)—with a strong focus on women—and supports 150 children at risk of school dropout. It provides income-generating assets such as tailoring machines, beekeeping kits, and small-scale production equipment, alongside skill orientation and cooperative-based enterprise development.

In parallel, the project delivers essential educational support, including school uniforms, bags, and learning materials, to ensure continued school participation among children from marginalized families.

By integrating livelihood promotion with education support, the project aims to reduce poverty, strengthen women’s economic empowerment, and promote sustainable community development. The initiative aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No Poverty (SDG 1), Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Decent Work (SDG 8), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).
