Community Action for Nutrition (CAN) Project (Sunaula Hazar Din)

The Community Actions for Nutrition (CAN) Project (Sunaula Hazar Din) has been implemented in 10 districts of Nepal by MOFALD at central level and DDCs and VDCs at local level..

With the financial support of Japanese Social Development Fund (JSDF) and Partnership For Transparency (PTF) under the Citizen Action for Results Transparency & Accountability (CARTA/Helvetas), NEST carried out a third party monitoring and process verification of the CAN sub-project with the aims to strengthen good governance and accountability. NEST involved in monitoring of 10 CAN districts i.e. Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi,Rautahat, Parsa, Bara, Makawanpur.

The project covered one year period from March 2014 to April 2015 with following objectives.

To verify that the key service providers have carried out all the activities for effective facilitation of the RRNI process

To increase access of stakeholders to RRNI-related information

To verify reports developed by the service providers with the help of RRNI team

The major achievement of the project remained is as follows;

Finalized TOR of Cluster Verification officer (CVO)

Prepared training materials and conducted a 3 days orientation training for CVOS in Kathmandu

• Conducted central level coordination

meeting with MOFALD, WB,Helvetas/CARTA, NSPS and NEST

• Visited DDC, Met LDO and DDC focal Person of CAN Project and NSP’s district supervisor in Rautahat districts and briefed about the role of third party monitoring of Sunaula Hazar Din

•Develop field monitoring action plan and visited CAN project districts

• Developed guideline and checklist for Cluster Verification Officers

•Orientation about guideline and checklist to CVOS in Pokhara and Deployed 7 CVOs in 7 clusters

•Conducted introductory meetings in districts about the role of third party monitoring

•CVOS deployed in districts and started verification work in the field.

• Review meeting with CVOS and updated verification reports of all 10 CAN project districts.

• CVOS verified 227 RRNI,s in 10 districts
